In spite of the remoteness and the low standards of education in lsiolo County, a 13 year old girl surprised many at the eKitabu Essay competition by emerging the best essayist countrywide with 86.9 points.

Zamzam Suleiman, a class seven pupil at Little Angel’s Academy beat more than 2,000 pupils from different parts of the country  after writing a letter  to the President informing him of how happy she was for his efforts  to support  digital learning in the country.

Zamzam said she did not expect to win as she wasn’t prepared  for the competition.

Speaking to Young Nation, she said the win was thanks to her creativity.

This is, however, not her first time to participate in essay writing competitions; she tried in 2010 and emerged position three.

“I was not prepared  for the competition, our English teacher announced the competition during  our usual assembly and I got interested,” Zamzam said.

She said the support  she received from her dad and the teachers was enough for her to write the best essay.

Mr Samuel Ouma, her  English teacher, said he was very proud of her performance. He said the good performance was expected since she writes very nice compositions.

The school Director Ms Jane Mwangi said she is proud of Zamzam since she competed with so many pupils who were much exposed.

She said Zamzam is a very bright  girl, obedient, humble and performs  very well in class. The lover of English and Mathematics says she hopes to join Alliance Girls next year.
